Smartening Cities: A Present-Day Necessity for Tehran – Dr. Ziyari’s Perspective in Conversation with University of Tehran Network

Ehsan Dorostkar, a student at the University of Tehran, emphasized the urgent need for smartening cities and leveraging modern technologies to tackle urban challenges in an interview with the University of Tehran Network. He stated that as the global trend of urban smartening continues to advance rapidly, failure to act now will lead to missed opportunities.

Dorostkar attributed many current problems to the inappropriate imitation of Western models and added:

“Our cities are growing rapidly, and the population is becoming uncontrollable; traditional planning methods are no longer effective.”

Discussing innovative solutions, he noted:

“The Metaverse framework can fully simulate a city, and by utilizing artificial intelligence, it becomes possible to conduct analyses such as evaluating the resilience of executive systems against floods in Tehran. Managers and experts must be trained, and local solutions tailored to each region’s specific issues should be proposed.”

Dr. Karamatollah Ziyari, a full professor at the University of Tehran, also stressed the need to bring scientific approaches into the management of all institutions and organizations. He stated:

“We must integrate science and research into every aspect of the country—ministries and institutions alike—and ensure that managers across all levels are specialized. Otherwise, we will face regression.”

These remarks highlight the urgent need to rethink Tehran’s urban management strategies and adopt modern technologies to address the challenges ahead.
